An empirical comparison of three inference methods

چکیده
In this paper, an empirical evaluation of three infer ence methods for uncertain reasoning is presented in the context of Pathfinder, a large expert system for the diagnosis of lymph node pathology. The inference procedures evaluated are (1) Bayes' theorem, a:ssum ing evidence is conditionally independent given each hypothesis, (2) odds-likelihood updating, assuming evidence is conditionally independent given each hy pothesis and given the negation of each hypothesis, and (3) a inference method related: to the Dempster Shafer theory of belief. A decision-theoretic approach is introduced for evaluating the performance of ex pert systems. This approach, when combined with . a more traditional expert-rating methcx\ for evalua tion, provides insights about various components of the inference process.

Prediction of Thermal performance nanofluid Al2O3 by Artificial Neural Network and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference Systemt
In recent years, the use of modeling methods that directly utilize empirical data is increasing due to the high accuracy in predicting the results of the process, rather than statistical methods. In this paper, the ability of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Adaptive Fuzzy-Neural Inference System (ANFIS) models in the prediction of the thermal performance of Al2O3 nanofluid that is measured ...
متن کاملApplication of Artificial Neural Network and Fuzzy Inference System in Prediction of Breaking Wave Characteristics
Wave height as well as water depth at the breaking point are two basic parameters which are necessary for studying coastal processes. In this study, the application of soft computing-based methods such as artificial neural network (ANN), fuzzy inference system (FIS), adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and semi-empirical models for prediction of these parameters are investigated. Th...
متن کاملComparison of different empirical methods for estimating ddaily reference evapotranspiration in the humid cold climate (case study: Borujen, Shahrekord, Koohrang and Lordegan)
The proposed method for calculation of potential evapotranspiration is Penman-Monteith FAO method, but there are other methods that require less meteorological data but estimates close to the FAO Penman-Monteith method in different climatic conditions. Performance evaluation of these methods on the same basis is prerequisite for selecting an alternative approach in accordance with available da...
متن کاملPrediction of slope stability using adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system based on clustering methods
Slope stability analysis is an enduring research topic in the engineering and academic sectors. Accurate prediction of the factor of safety (FOS) of slopes, their stability, and their performance is not an easy task. In this work, the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) was utilized to build an estimation model for the prediction of FOS. Three ANFIS models were implemented including g...
